I was over the moon for OPI’s Suede polishes a few years back and just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see how Julep’s Suede finish polishes measured up!
For the first time in a long time I ended up sticking with my normal style: American Beauty. My box included 3 individually wrapped nail polish remover pads, Pink Grapefruit Body Frosting, and 2 suede finish polishes: Amber and Brit.
Now, usually I post my boxes before I’ve had to try every product – but this time I’ve tried and loved every single one. I’ll be doing full polish reviews of Amber and Brit over on The Daily Varnish. I have oodles to say about the products in this box as well as a quick run down of the new Julep Jules reward program so I’d love it if you clicked below to keep reading!
NYC is a brand that wasn’t really on my radar until earlier this year. Back in 2010 I discovered their nail polish and tried a few but as far as makeup goes I never gave the brand a second thought.
But then I tried the much talked about Sunny Bronzer. I fell in love instantly! It’s a perfect matte bronzer to use for contouring. Since I had such good luck with the bronzer I also gave their Smooth Skin Liquid Makeup a whirl. Again, I was impressed. It’s not an everyday foundation, and it wouldn’t be good for those with oily skin, but I have normal to dry skin and this is the perfect foundation for those light makeup days.
This week Rite Aid has all NYC cosmetics 40% off so I figured it was a perfect time to stock up on foundation and bronzer as well as try a couple new items. I picked up the Show Time volumizing mascara in Extreme Black. I’m a bit of a mascara snob (Clinqiue High Impact is my HG mascara) but I’m going out of town for Thanksgiving and wanted a less expensive mascara to take with me. I’m looking forward to giving this one a try!
The only other items I picked up were 2 nail polishes from the NYC Long Wearing Nail Enamel line; Starry Silver and Broadway Burgundy. Both look super pretty in the bottle!
It’s worth pointing out that all of this cost me a whopping $7.15 thanks to Rite Aid’s 40% off sale. If you’ve yet to try anything from NYC this week is a good time to give it a shot!
I’d love to know if you have any favorite NYC products. I’m always up to trying new beauty products 🙂
Admittedly I have a bit of a nail polish hoarding problem. That is well documented over on The Daily Varnish. But I also have quite the eyeshadow collection and surprisingly most of my favorite eyeshadows are from wet n wild. So when I was at CVS and saw a limited edition Where’s the Party? display featuring 3 eyeshadow palettes I was pretty excited. Sparkle ‘Til Morning immediately caught my eye though I debated on whether or not to pick it up. The colors looked a bit on the warm side which don’t generally look good with my cool complexion. As it turns out…I love this palette!
Sparkle ‘Til Morning features 8 mostly neutral shadows with the exception of an aqua shadow. All of the shadows are very pigmented and have a buttery texture. As with many of wet n wild’s shadows these can be a bit powdery but I don’t have any issues with fall out.
These palettes retail for $4.99 and while I can’t say this palette is a definite must have since none of the shadows are particularly unique for the price and amount of use I know I’ll get out of this palette it was a great purchase.

Charlotte finally got a Whole Foods, y’all! It seems a bit ridiculous that it took as long as it did but I’m happy that the Charlotte store has finally opened. Of course, being me, the first time I checked it out I went straight to the health and beauty section. A few things caught my eye. One being the Mineral Fusion polish Whole Foods carries. I didn’t pick a polish up (yet) but I’m definitely considering it. So if you’ve tried the Mineral Fusion polishes let me know what you think!
Ok, anyway, on to the point of this post. Another thing that caught my eye while I was at Whole Foods was the Hugo Naturals display. I’m a Lush devotee but there is no Lush in Charlotte. So when I saw a rather large display full of artisan soap I was immediately drawn in. There were so many soaps to choose from. They even had Halloween themed soap with a black cat! But when I smelled the Shea Butter & Vanilla soap there was no question. It had to be mine.

I’ve been a Julep Maven for almost a year, but when Julep premiered their October boxes I was completely ready to pass yet again. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a box – I sent one to Alli and we gave away one on The Daily Varnish – but when Julep decided to have a shatter-free box – I was over the moon for the simple yet classy chic colors. I simply couldn’t pass it up!
I love getting Julep boxes because it’s like opening a present every month! I love that things are wrapped inside! The glitter and the candy corn (not shown) were not wrapped up. Black and Orange glitter – perfect timing for Halloween!

A few months ago I decided to try out a Birchbox subscription. I love trying new products so I figured it’d be perfect for me.
All in all, I’ve been pretty pleased over the last few months – though I swore after the disappointing contents of the August box I was going to cancel. It just so happens that I forgot to cancel and I’m glad because I’m enjoying my September goodies.

I’ve been wanting to try Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hour eyeshadow for ages but none of the color really appealed to me. I like to use cream shadow as an eye shadow base. My previous favorite, Clinique Touch Tint for Eyes in Nude Sparkle but it has long been discontinued. Due to that, I’ve been on the lookout for a dupe or at least an acceptable replacement. When I saw Barely Beige in Maybelline’s Fall 2012 Runway display I thought I might have a winner. And I was right!
Maybelline has pretty big claims for their Color Tattoo line. The colors are supposed to be long lasting and be highly pigmented. They are also supposed to be fade and crease proof.
I don’t have oily lids but I have had plenty of cream shadows crease and move on me. But Barely Beige does stay put. As far a pigmentation goes; Barely Beige is a light color. Pigmentation isn’t a huge issue. But I was happy with the color payoff.
There are only 2 things I don’t love about this product. One is I’d like a slightly thinner consistency. This really just comes down to personal preference but it can get a little thick if you apply too much. The other is the packaging. I much prefer a tube as opposed to a pot. Though again, just personal preference!
I’m definitely looking forward to trying other colors from the Color Tattoo line. If you have any favorites that I should check out please let me know!
